Following a competitive tendering process Falco was appointed by electrical infrastructure specialists, Dunamis, to undertake the excavation, installation and backfill of two 11kv High Voltage circuits six 630 sqm XLPE electric cables to enable power generated from a gas Generated power Station to be transferred back to the network via the 11kv Primary Sub Station Barclay Way Purfleet.
The project involved managing experienced teams through the construction phase. A variety of plant and equipment including excavators, dumpers, Vac Ex and a Top Cutter were used to complete the task. To enable the installation of the high voltage circuits our NERS-accredited operatives carefully excavated through the carriageway and footway encompassing various challenges along the route installing a 6-way ridgi duct formation as per design.
Following this, preparations and arrangements were put in place to format the installation of the electric cable for each duct which varied from 250 to 500 metres in length from each jointing bay. A Grundo Winch, Capstan Winch and Compressor were used to assist in the installation of the Electric Cable and the installation of the draw ropes. Competent, trained operators and operatives on site with constant radio communication and monitoring during each cable pull ensured continuity and successful installation.
The persistence and determination of the workforce ensured all cables pulls were undertaken in a timely and safe manner. Management consultation and workforce engagement were prioritised throughout which encouraged a productive working environment and a positive safety culture on site. Works were carried out under a Covid-19 preventative risk assessment with social distancing measures in place.
NERS surveillance visits were undertaken throughout and an Accreditation awarded by Lloyds National Electricity Registration Scheme for Cable Laying.
Client Testimonial
We were very impressed with Falco's delivery of one of the more challenging cable installation projects we have commissioned. The works involved creating a 6-way duct run under the QEII Bridge and their team worked collaboratively with us and various agencies from the Local Council to Highways England and Network Management to devise and facilitate a route through extensive reinforced concrete and other obstacles. I would not hesitate to use Falco again.
